I think this is the first anime I've ever seen where a character is depicted getting her first period (I know there's that bit in Eva but I'm specifically talking about FIRST periods), and in my opinion they handled it very well. Yuuko's reaction, her emotions regarding everything and her interactions with the other characters (mainly Hiroshi, her mom and Takako) are very relatable and understandable; she's scared and embarrassed and upset just as most other girls are when that happens. I really didn't see this episode coming and I think it was very well done.

THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- This is the end of Mizuiro Jidai - 39 to 47 is quite off the mark, some even repulsive, that I'll be ignoring them... What a delicate and well formulated story. It's ending was a graceful one, and one that I won't forget. Specifically because of all that has built up to it, all the muses and the wanderings about life... I think my heart fluttered a bit in all of that silence and a series like this deserves such a quiet ending. I love it, I love it, I love it. Its format, its tone, its beliefs, its approach - everything calls to me. I think this has nearly everything I want from anime, its definitely not perfect, but it has the heart. And my heart is damnably moved. The subject matter may be kind of "simple", but how it's dealt with is definitely beautiful. The kind of beauty that is eternal, unchanging, and ultimately clarifying. =)

A wholesome slice of life shojo manga from the early half of the 90s, that was adapted in a animated series of 26 episodes, as well as a manga sequel and a little spin-off. The manga talks about the stories of the preteen girl Yuko and her friends during the middle school mostly; between friendship, school matters and first loves; between fun and difficult moments. Includes as well real life stories by the author as bonus stories. The art is pretty simple but well done, the Yabuuchi style of drawing is very cute and develops very well the character emotions! The scripting is very well done and really takes you with the moments everybody living at the moment. I really enjoy this series, re-reading It recently after.... More than 20 years i buy and read It, it's highly recommended!
